PIPELINE REPAIRS / REMEDIATION
When repairing a pipeline, the aim should be to return it to as near to its original condition as practicable. The best way to achieve this is to remove the damaged section of pipeline and replace it with a new section of undamaged pipe of the same specification. The approach to be used should be to, where possible, cut out and replace the damaged pipeline section with new pipe.
If it is not possible to immediately replace the damage section, a temporary repair should be installed until the section can be cut out and replaced. If it is considered that installing a new section of pipe is not a viable repair, then an alternative repair can be used.
Services we Offer
The following are credible damage scenarios for which repair can be performed:
- Pipeline rupture;
- Pipeline leak;
- Critical damage: Dent; Gouge; Corrosion; Girth weld cracking; Fatigue cracking;
- Displaced pipe.
Repair Methods
Depending on the defect and damage scenarios, the following repair common repair methods that may be implemented. These methods are recognized in pipeline standards such as ASME B31.8S, and industry guidance provide in the Pipeline Repair Manual published by the Pipeline Research Council International (PRCI):
- Pipe section replacement;
- Type B and Type A steel sleeves;
- Epoxy Grout steel sleeve;
- Composite Wrap;
- Grinding/dressing;
- Stress relief by excavation;
- Leak clamps;
- Pumpkin sleeve;
- Pipeline coating;
- Temporary pressure reductions.
Emergency Pipeline Repair System (EPRS)
Rave Limited can assist pipeline operators in developing a comprehensive Emergency Pipeline Repair System (EPRS) for their pipeline assets. Establishment of an EPRS would ensure that an operator is able to perform emergency repairs and/or replacement of pipeline sections in practically all plausible or probable emergency scenarios effectively, safely and with the minimum downtime.
